Distant light

Somewhere, several days out Moscow by river, sits a monument to Soviet long-term construction…an uncompleted bridge. One part of this bridge is completed, but on the opposite side of the river, the construction project was never started. This uncompleted bridge is shrouded by a mystical legend known as "the Bridge of the Flying Biker.” It is said, that once…a biker attempted to jump from this bridge; but rather than successfully landing on the other side – to the roar of spectators, or failing - to the sound of broken bones - the dare-devil biker disappeared: never to be seen again, dead or alive. Since then, many bikers believed that he had risen - together with his motorcycle - directly into the sky - where he has become the guardian angel of all bikers. Within even the most beautiful of legends, only part of the story is usually real. In our film, it is a matter of fact which is based upon an investigation of the present circumstances and recorded events.

Approximately ten years ago, four friends, three with biker nicknames - Ęîndor, Gangway and Makron, - and the fourth, named Alexey Rokin, had talked so much about the legend of the “Flying Biker,” that they decided to create a biker club which they called the "Black Angels." Since then, a lot of water has passed under the bridge. Ęîndor became head of the “Black Angels;” which grew to hundreds of members and had branches scattered all over the country. Gangway, though weak, is still recorded in the membership ranks of the "Black Angels," Rokin, became a motorcycle instructor, and Makron became an unpleasant part of the history that followed the “Black Angels.”

One day, the four bikers witnessed a road accident where a person was killed. They knew that it was necessary to immediately call the police, however, they did not because, inside the wrecked car they found a small suitcase with money that belonged to a criminal nicknamed “The Thrower,” who had survived the accident. He got his nickname while working in a circus, as he was a master at throwing knifes. Later, The Thrower confronted Ęîndor, who by then was considered to be the president of the "Black Angels," and requested that all of the money be returned - or the "Black Angels" would have huge problems. Ęîndor led the investigation inside the club and came to the conclusion that the money was taken by Makron. Ęîndor demanded that Makron return the money to The Thrower, as he understood that a disagreement with the Mafia could cause the "Black Angels" to suffer defeat, the money could be lost and the club would most likely cease to exist. Makron refused and Ęîndor decided to hand him over to The Thrower, even though he knew that if he did so he would be braking the first law of the "Black Angels," which was: "Black Angels do not give-up their own." The Thrower pursued Makron and forced him into a dead-end road at the site of the uncompleted bridge; leaving Makron no choice except to attempt to jump the bridge. His jump was unsuccessful and he was badly injured, but he remained alive. Ęîndor, who was following the pursuit, found him before The Thrower and the gangsters did, and he hid Makron and the motorcycle. Thus…the mystical legend of the “Flying Biker" was re-born.

Our story now moves forward ten years after the above events to the annihilation of The Thrower in Russia and the return of Makron. It became well-known that the Mafia was engaged in drug trafficking. Makron had dreams of expanding the business of the “Black Angels” in Russia; and he felt that it was necessary for the “club" to become the ideal mobile network for the drug business. With Ęîndor at a rudder of the "Black Angels, he had turned the organization away from its original legendary structure and into a criminal gang. But Makron held the trump card: the fact that earlier Ęîndor had handed him over to the gangsters which broke the first law of the "Black Angels." For that reason alone, Ęîndor was excluded from many of the biker communities. Makron expected to become the president of the "Black angels” as the living-legend "Flying Biker:" a legend that every boy in the cities with motorcycle clubs knew.

The next part of this dramatic story occurs at “the Bridge of the Flying Biker," where it seems that Makron’s plan to take over the "Black Angels" cannot be prevented. But unexpectedly there appears a daredevil, ready to repeat the jump of the “Flying Biker." He aims to become a new living-legend, eclipsing the old myth and rescuing the “Black Angels” from Makron who was destined to bring them to ruin. The new challenger was a daredevil named Ivan. He is the protagonists of film. Ivan is a promising young motorcycle racer. His trainer Alexey Rokin had earlier left the "Black Angels" and was barred from motorcycle competition.

Ivan casually learns that behind the legend of the “Flying Biker" there is a terrible secret, and with his youthful exuberance, he wishes to solve this secret. He starts a road-show dedicated to the “Legend of the Flying Biker."

Alexey learns the reason why his pupil has gone on with the road-show and he goes after him. The history of the “Flying Biker" becomes more widely known; and as Alexey considers Ivan as his own son, he does not want him to get into trouble.

Ivan’s real father - Klim - had not lived with Ivan and his mother for a long time and his relationship with Ivan was not very good. After seeing what fatherly care Alexey showed Ivan. Klim, a successful businessman with many holdings including a large construction company, became jealous of the relationship his son had with the trainer. He decided to put all of his business matters aside - and he set out to follow Ivan. Klim meets Alexey on road to the “Bridge of the Flying Biker" and they continue on together. By the end of the trip, there is no more jealousy and they become dear friends.

The film is an investigation of the secret of the “Flying Biker" by Ivan and it is depicted in the genre of a road-movie. Along the way, our hero Ivan, while carrying the weight of adventures and uncertainty - as expected - meets a girl.

In spite of the fact that the realism of this picture can be defined as a criminal drama, it can on the other hand depict a parable about destroying the old and rotten behavior of a god or hero in a myth, and replacing it with a new young hero whose thoughts are pure and unselfish. For that reason, this film can be of interest to different audiences - from fans of insurgents, to those in search of a deep sense of meaning.
